This week we were challenged to look at two different codes of ethics and pick three ideals that were meaningful to us. I don't know about the rest of you, but this was a slight challenge for me. I hope I can do these ideals that I chose justice.
I-1.11—To provide all children with experiences in a
language that they know, as well as support children
in maintaining the use of their home language and in
learning English.
This ideal really hit me, since I do work in an area where my students are all diverse culturally. I have students who are from El Salvador, Mexico, Haiti, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and more. They each have their own language and culture. My "newcomer" students always floor me with the amount of English that they are able to learn and understand in such a short amount of time. They are so determined, at such a young age. I love this ideal, because we do work with our students in order to encourage them to use their home language. I ask my students to teach me key words and phrases, because I want to be able to connect with them more, than just forcing them to learn my language.
1. We shall demonstrate in our behavior and language respect and appreciation for the unique value
and human potential of each child.
This is our chance to show our students that they each have potential. These children come to us in such a vulnerable state. They come to learn, they come to grow, they come to feel comfortable. We are role models for each and every single one of our students. I love this ideal because I do appreciate each and every one of my students, but I'm not sure that I show that 100% of the time. Hopefully this will help me to remember to support them and show them their value every step of the way.
I-2.1—To be familiar with the knowledge base related to
working effectively with families and to stay informed
through continuing education and training
This ideal was one of my favorites because it not only touched on working with families, but it touched on exactly why I am working towards my masters degree. I want to continue my education and training. Not just for me. I want to be able to learn more each and every day, from my students, mentors, and colleagues. One of my largest goals is always to work effectively with families, keeping myself and them informed on everything to do with the proper and effective education of their child.
This is an early childhood education blog run by a teacher, working towards her masters degree at Walden university. This will be a place that I post my work, ask for advice, and do my best to share what it is like being in early childhood education.

New Resources
I have posted the resources that we were able to access this week, now I would like to add a few more resources that I found on my own. These can also be found at the bottom of my page, under the resources page.
The first resource that I found pertains to my state of Maryland: This gives insight into curriculum, childcare, and more.
https://earlychildhood.marylandpublicschools.org/child-care-providers/early-childhood-curriculum/early-childhood-resources
A second resource I would like to include is a book that I read with my team this year. I even suggested it to one of my parents at the beginning of the year. She loved it. How to Talk so Little Kids Will Listen
https://www.scribd.com/book/335179249/How-to-Talk-so-Little-Kids-Will-Listen-A-Survival-Guide-to-Life-with-Children-Ages-2-7?&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=adwords_nonbrand&utm_campaign=Google_DSA_Ebooks_US&utm_term=&utm_device=c&gclid=CjwKCAjwgqbpBRAREiwAF046JZpcJ3Gk2-As4RL82rjlawL7A7dHuMSLk4fkZ9G3KywdO-n94SZP4xoC0CQQAvD_BwE
There is a follow up book called:
How to Talk so Kids Will Listen and How to Listen so Kids will Talk
This is also a fantastic resource, because it gives you tips and tricks that help children/students feel comfortable when talking to you; not just about education
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/769016.How_to_Talk_So_Kids_Will_Listen_Listen_So_Kids_Will_Talk
Finally the website of the author's of this amazing book. This is a resource not only to learn about the author's, but other books they have written as well.

Welcome to week four of my blog! I found quite a few quotes that I wanted to add, but I chose a few that I liked the best! I hope you enjoy!
“We are fond of saying “practice makes perfect,” and indeed the title of this book plays on the connection between practice and perfection. But it is more accurate to say that practice makes permanent.”
-Doug Lemov
I have no idea how many times my favorite high school teacher, Mrs. Downs, said this to me my senior year. She ingrained this in my head. I have caught myself saying "practice makes perfect" more than once, but then I think back to Mrs. Downs. Practice makes permanent definitely helped me to get routines down in high school and college that kept me on track. I am going to work more to say this to my students as a form of encouragement.
"We must be the compassion that we wish to see in others!"
-Janet Gonzales-Mena
What a powerful quote. If we are do not teach and lead by showing compassion that is one last chance for our students to show compassion to one another.
"We as professionals in the early childhood field have an opportunity to shape a child's life for the better, and so that makes me passionate about this field."
-Sandy Escobido
This quote is from the video we watched during the media presentation we viewed during week 2. This particular quote hit home for me because I always like to think of students minds as a blank slate so that we are able to mold their minds. We also help to shape the lives of our students. We can be the change for them. We can be the reason that they have a positive change in their lives. This makes me passionate about what I do as a teacher.
